Why is the GST registration necessary and who should register for it?
GST registration is necessary to register your business entity under GSTIN and get the 15 digits of your unique identification number from your tax authorities. It will be helpful to avail of the Input Tax Credit (ITC) and to do the collection of GST.
Any business with a turnover of Rs.40 lakh and above should register for GST. But for the north-eastern, the turnover limit is Rs.10 lakh. Additionally, individuals also have to register for GST. Such as
- All operators who are handling e-commerce,
- Distributors of input services, non-residential,
- Inter-state suppliers,
- Aggregators who are providing the service under trade and new brands,
- And individuals who are eligible for a tax deduction under section 37,
- Individuals with the taxability for the reverse charge,
- Suppliers of goods and services on behalf of other registered taxpayers in the capacity of agent,
- Other groups of individuals were notified by the state and central government as per the GST Council recommendation.
- Goods and service providers of Intra-state with a turnover of Rs.20 to 40 lakhs should register for GST. Also, intra-state suppliers should register for GST.
